Sgt. Caro Everett Freeman (U. S. Army) was killed in action by machine gun fire in World War I during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France on 11 October 1918. He has a marker at Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery in France as his body was never recovered. He was from Bryson City, NC and enlisted on 14 May 1915 in Galveston, Texas.
